When the country of Valentine is obliterated by the power of an ancient artifact, it sparks a bloody war between the fairies of Ringford and the warriors of Ragnanival. Little do they know that they are acting out an almost-forgotten prophecy: one that, if fulfilled, will lead to the destruction of the entire world.
Take control of the warrior princess Gwendolyn, daughter of Odin, and follow the threads of an intricately woven story as you uncover the truth behind the prophecy - and how to bring it to an end. Five playable characters in all; each one's fate is intertwined with the others'.
A robust cooking and alchemy system that can be used to create powerful attack and recovery items. Odin Sphere has five stories. The protagonist of each story is connected to the royalty of each of five warring nations in the world of Erion. Each of these protagonists wields a 'Psypher', a weapon with a large crystal capable of absorbing 'Phozons', energy sparks released when something (such as an enemy) is slain. These five stories overlap and interconnect, and the protagonist of one story may be the antagonist of another. A Truly Amazing Gem for a Truly Amazing Time of Gaming. Let's be honest here, the Playstation 2 was one of the greatest gaming systems of all time not due to the volume of games it had, but because of the quality ones Sony decided not to shrug off. Atlus, who are renowned for their quality RPGs, brings us another amazing game in the form of Odin Sphere. Odin Sphere is a 2D sidescrolling RPG with an interesting method of storytelling divided among five different character viewpoints.
Each of the five characters has their own storyline as well as their own unique repertoire of abilities. The game also sports its Alchemy system, which allows the user to make and brew potions of many varieties to defend yourself or assail your enemies. Gameplay wise, Odin Sphere sort of goes back to those sidescrolling beat-em-ups you played back in the Arcade when Arcades still existed, giving you that unique feeling of gameplay while delivering unto you the nice nostalgic feel gamers just seem to adore. Graphically, Odin Sphere looks beautiful, so beautiful in fact that there are certain portions of the game where it actually slows down! This however, is not a general problem as the slowdown is mild (and, in my opinion, sometimes appreciated) and doesn't take away from the experience. Sound, ah, this game has an incredible soundtrack, and sports some very good voice acting as well.

You might even hear some familiar voices while you play as well! Character wise, this game has very lovable characters, each having their own stories that change them all in some way. All in all, Odin Sphere is a fantastic RPG and if you like RPGs, this is one of those games you should own. Great Fantasy Themed Game Odin Sphere as a game altogether is a delight for fantasy setting lovers. Graphically the game is beautiful with colorful artwork and highly varied settings. The animation is quite smooth and fluid. The story is engaging and keeps a rather serious dramatic tone throughout the game.
Musically the game has appropriate tracks for the settings and events. The game also allows an option of either English or Japanese Spoken dialouge. Something many other games do not give the option of. Game-play wise the game may take some getting used to because of the item management as well as the relatively repetitive hack and slash action. The game counters this though by having not too lengthy of dungeons and by taking advantage of the alchemy feature of the game.

This game is recommended to RPG fans, especially those who love high fantasy type settings and enjoy (or can manage their inventory well).

This is the PAL release of the PS2 version of Odin Sphere. The reason I'm putting it here is because, the only version I saw, available on this site, was the NTSC release. Generally the PAL versions of PS2 games are not-worse-than-NTSC at best, broken at worst. This is one of the few exceptions to that, when Square Enix released it in Europe (Yes Squeenix released Atlus games I didn't make that up) they fixed all of the framerate issues of the American release. This game supports 50/60 hz switching so you should be able to play it with no issues even on an american TV once you get past the first screen (2 times down and press X and than follow instructions).
I highly recommend playing it in NTSC mode even if you have a PAL compatible TV not because the game isnt optimized (it actually works the same in PAL as it does in NTSC) but because the resolution adjustments ruin allot of textures making them look really blocky. Outside of the improved framerate this game is pretty much the same, content wise, as the NTSC version. The only other notable difference is that the zig-zaggy textboxes are mostly gone and replaced with subtitles on the bottom of the screen (you still find them at the cafe and restaurant for some random reason). If you're a GSM user, DON'T run this game in 480p or 1080i, while at first it might seem like it works it causes incredible slowdowns and crashes during fights or saving the game.

OPL has no issues with it. The video contains some spoilers towards the end of first character's story if you want to avoid them stop watching after 3:20 (I needed to include the spoilerific bossfight since it's infamous for the amount of slowdown and framerate issues in the NTSC version).
